Mabon Anise Cookies

Easy Peasey-

1 refrigerator sugar cookie roll
1/4 c. Anise seeds

Cut into small pieces, then roll and put in sheet.  Then press your thumb into them to make a thumbprint.  Sprinkle a few Anise seeds into the thumbprint indentation.  Bake for 8 mins.

Remove and let cook then ice.

Icing

1 can vanilla frosting
1/4 cup lemon zest
2 Tbsp, Orange juice
1/4 c Anise seeds ground

Mix items together thoroughly and ice the cookies.  Let sand for 10 min.

MIchaelMas Treats

An old Irish proverb says:
“On Michaelmas Day the devil puts his foot on blackberries”.

MichaelMas s day to celebrate the fall harvest and St. Michael's battle over evil.

The day is filled with blackberries, cabbage and goose!



Sweet Red Cabbage


2 lbs red cabbage, shredded finely
4 large onions, peeled & finely diced
4 large apples or pears, NOT peeled, finely diced
4 garlic cloves, peeled & finely minced
4 tablespoons soft brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
salt & pepper
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 ounce butter

Directions:

Discard outer leaves of the red cabbage and cut into quarters. Cut out the central woody root and then shred the quarters very finely. Place in a bowl. Cut the apples or pears into quarters, core them & then slice into fine dice and set aside in another bowl, then place the peeled and diced onions into another bowl.

For cooking in the Crockpot - take the inner crock out and start layering the ingredients: red cabbage, salt & pepper; apples or pears, onions & garlic, all the spices & brown sugar; keep layering this way until everything has been used up. Dot the top of the red cabbage with the butter and pour over the red wine vinegar and cook for 6 hours on High in the Crockpot. Turn down to low and simmer for another 1-2 hours.
 


MichaelMas Dumplings


Ingredients:

4 ozs  freshly picked blackberries
1 medium sized  apple
 4 ozs (flour
Pinch salt
1 oz butter or margarine
White granulated sugar
Cold milk
½-pint  water

Directions:

Wash the blackberries and then peel, core and quarter the cooking apple.

Place the flour and the salt in a mixing bowl and with your fingertips; rub the butter or margarine into the flour. Stir in 3 level teaspoons of white sugar and then mix to a soft dough with about 4 tablespoons of cold milk.

Divide the dumpling dough into 4 pieces on a floured board and carefully mold a piece around each quarter of an apple, making sure that the apple is completely covered.

Place berries and remaning sugar in crock pot. Cook on High for 4 hours.  When mixture is very hot drop in dumplings and cook another 4 hours on high,

Cnady Corn Drink

 

With Fall around the corner, my thoughts are beig occupied by fall flavors and fun.  Each we I have a Halloween Party, and this year I just have to make this!!!!  IS this cool or what?



  • 4-serving-size packagelemon-flavor gelatin
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups mango nectar
  • 3 1/2 cups orange carbonated beverage, chilled
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Candy corn (optional)

Directions
1. In a large bowl combine gelatin and the boiling water, stirring until gelatin is dissolved. Stir in the mango nectar. Pour mixture into a tall, clear 2-quart pitcher. Cover and chill about 2 hours or until thickened but not set. Gently pour* orange carbonated beverage over gelatin layer in pitcher.
2. In a large bowl combine whipping cream and honey. Beat with an electric mixer or large whisk just until stiff peaks form (tips stand straight). Spoon over mixtures in pitcher. If desired, add candy. Before serving, stir to muddle.

Mabon Trifle

2 (14-ounce) packages gingerbread mix
1 (5.1-ounce) box cook-and-serve vanilla pudding mix
1 (30-ounce) can pumpkin pie filling
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 teaspoon ground cardamom or cinnamon
1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping
1/2 cup gingersnaps, optional

Directions

Bake the gingerbread according to the package directions; cool completely. Meanwhile, prepare the pudding and set aside to cool. Stir the pumpkin pie filling, sugar, and cardamom into the pudding. Crumble 1 batch of gingerbread into the bottom of a large, pretty bowl. Pour 1/2 of the pudding mixture over the gingerbread, then add a layer of whipped topping. Repeat with the remaining gingerbread, pudding, and whipped topping. Sprinkle of the top with crushed gingersnaps, if desired. Refrigerate overnight. Trifle can be layered in a punch bowl.

Mabon Smells




Mabon Oil Blend  
 4 drops Rosemary
 4 drops Frankincense
 2 drops Apple
 1 drop Chamomille
  Use 1/8 cup Almond Oil for Base

Mabon Loose Incense
2 parts sandalwood
2 parts pine
1 part rosemary
1 part cinnamon
1 part dried apple
1 part dried oak leaf
